Family Life SA continues the forty year tradition of being a provider of family education evenings for Junior Primary and Primary aged students and their parents or caregivers.
These interactive and entertaining evening sessions not only provide information, but just as importantly open up discussion about sexuality between children and their parents or care-givers.
Our tried and trusted Family Evening format include 2 sessions:
"How We Began" is an interactive session for at 7-9 year-old children (although suitable for all age groups) with their familles
This session begins by talking about the familles, and goes on to explain conception - egg, sperm, where they come from, how they get together via sexual intercourse and how the baby is born.
Suitable terminology is used so that children have appropriate vocabulary to discuss the topic of reproduction.
This program can open and enhance discussion between you and your child about the subject of reproduction.
"Puberty Clues" covers the changes of puberty and is aimed at 9-12 year-olds with their families.
This session builds on "How We Began" but can also be attended as a stand-alone session, provided children have some understanding of reproduction. It covers the workings of the male and female reproductive systems, and discusses the external and internal physical changes that occur during puberty.
Note: These age ranges are approximate only and children of various ages are welcome at the sessions.
Both sessions are presented with humour and sensitivity, and the overwhelming response to these sessions speaks for itself. A range of books is available for purchase on the evening should parents wish to build on the information gained from the presentation.
We just wanted to say thank you for the fantastic presentation that you held at our school on Tuesday 23rd March 2010.
We were extremely pleased with attendance numbers at both of our sessions. The feedback that we have received from both the parents and the children has been extremely positive. Your professionalism, easy going approach and sensitivity on what can sometimes be a difficult subject to host was brilliant.
